As Paul’s life nears an end, he writes a final letter to his younger co-worker Timothy. In the first chapter Paul reminds Timothy of his spiritual heritage and tells him that he must choose between being ashamed of the gospel or suffering for it.
2 Timothy 2
Paul describes discipleship using the images of a soldier, and athlete, and a farmer. He also counsels to base all teaching on the word of God and to not be frustrated in trying to teach the unteachable.
2 Timothy 3
After giving a sobering portrait of the pervasive disobedience found in many churches, Paul says the remedy to this is discipleship through the leading of the Holy Spirit and the word of God.
2 Timothy 4
Paul’s challenge at the end of this epistle is to continue the work of the gospel. Many will simply want to be entertained when they attend church, but the true believer will stay on mission for Jesus.
